BG AUTHORS

Autumn Poetry: A Collection for the Season was mentioned in a post on BG Authors - Poetry for Fall - Blog. (This blog is from Bowling Green State University - a community of readers and authors from the northwest Ohio area and Bowling Green State University - who want to share their love of books and highlight local authors.) I am so incredibly honored to have my book mentioned and recommended! Thank you!

From Netflix

A recommendation tonight by my daughter from Netflix!  I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House is a 2016 gothic horror movie written and directed by Osgood Perkins. The pacing is a little slow, but the atmosphere is mysterious and unique. Very different and maybe not for everyone, but yes, we would recommend!

Song of the Witches

Song of the Witches: “Double, double toil and trouble”

By William Shakespeare

From: Macbeth

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake,

In the cauldron boil and bake;

Eye of newt and toe of frog,

Wool of bat and toe of dog,

Adder’s fork and blind-worms sting;

Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing,

For a charm of powerful trouble

Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Cool it with a baboon’s blood

Then the charm is firm and good.

Feel the change?

Does it feel like autumn where you are?
I know, it feels like it here too!

 Orange Monsters

Last year Amazon sold orange monsters for Halloween. They were chubby little things that you soaked in water first and grew to be about three feet tall. They had eyes like saucers, sharp angled teeth, and a crown of baby pumpkins growing out of their heads. The neighbors all bought one for their front porches, in fact, our street had a whole army of orange monsters. They were handy too because they kept the kids in line, like when they passed out candy they made sure everyone shouted trick or treat first. They also scared kids when it was appropriate and took notes on costumes so that nobody could come back for seconds. And we were happy because we got to relax - you know, really enjoy Halloween.

But there was trouble when the trick or treating ended. The monsters started gathering in the streets and packs of them began egging cars, toilet papering houses, and stuffing leaves into unlocked cars. Some threw pumpkins into the alleys and then took to jumping on roofs. The news said it was because of a contract dispute, but we really don’t know why they did it.

Anyway, it ended when the fire department arrived with these whopping vats of boiling water and one by one as they caught the monsters they threw them into the fiery liquid where they growled into piles of pumpkin froth. We sprinkled cinnamon and nutmeg on cupfuls of it and drank it later that night as we sat around telling ghost stories and agreed that it was the best latte we ever had.

Film Noir

I have two movies to recommend tonight.  Both are from the 1940s and both have some wonderful actors. If you watch TCM do not miss Cry Wolf (a mystery) with Barbara Stanwyck and Errol Flynn, and Conflict (suspense) with Humphrey Bogart and Alexis Smith. Perfect for an almost autumn night!
