Salt Year

Salt Year

the cucumbers
are packed away
in jars
on shelves
with pickled beans and beets
and artichokes

we watch the year
fall away
feel the darkness
sinking in our bones

while under a gold cut moon
summer peels like
Christmas oranges

Yellow

Yellow

It was a gray
and stormy afternoon.
The maples had gone bare.
Wrapped inside a raincoat,
rubber boots,
I trudged across a field
of stale damp weeds,
when up ahead
one yellow tree remained.
I stood alone
beneath its branches
lemon colored sky
and listened
to the rain.

Crows

Crows

and corn and wicker hair
wispy moons, witches' glare

potions, lotions, palms are read
monsters lurking, nighttime dread

fortunes flicker, bonfire light
howling wolves fill the night
