St. Crispins

St. Crispins

the asylum walls
lay bare
with voices

sound structure
noise whirling
locks click

spiral
staircases
tumble

into cold water
shivering

nightmares

Sleeping Trees

Sleeping Trees

A forest dark
in autumn night
alone with all
the milky light
of stars
 across a universe
will pause and know
her woods
could speak of snow.

And rest
was not so long ago
when moon
above a winter freeze
wrapped the boughs
of sleeping trees
with sterling blankets
lined in ease.

long before

long before

the love entwined
long before the two began
spirits
whispered listened
dreamed and planned

extraordinary
heart

Want to Be

Want to Be

want to be the stars
want to be the sky
want to be the love
within your eye

want to be a letter
on a sheet of white

...or the darkness in the night

could I be a reason why?
or a dark and simple lie?

would I be the past?
...more than you have asked

I'd like to be a dream
inside your head
...or a book that you just read

can I be your words?

want to be your blue
want to be your rain

everything in vain

In the Shallow

In the Shallow

We came down to the shore
to look at
the blue ice,
a color of sky
we had never seen before.

And in the distance
a freighter
leaned away from the rocks
against the coming
darkness.
