Yellow

Yellow

It was a gray
and stormy afternoon.
The maples had gone bare.
Wrapped inside a raincoat,
rubber boots,
I trudged across a field
of stale damp weeds,
when up ahead
one yellow tree remained.
I stood alone
beneath its branches
lemon colored sky
and listened
to the rain.
