Hemlock

Hemlock

along the surf
a house sits dry as tinder
the garden
old as the Victorians

and within
the hemlock hedge
on summer nights
the light of the fireflies
grace
a garnet of gray
stone faces
gazing up
at the moon

they wake
from their slumber
by the sea

and it frightens
me

    1. I’m sorry I didn’t see your reply until today! Sounds like you have the real stuff. I don’t know hemlock (really) or if it grows nearby. We do have poison oak though. I used to know a lot of wildflowers...... Queen Anne’s lace, Trillium, Wild Mustard.....back when I could wander through the forests. How I miss those forests!
